Desay SV and Parkopedia forge parking services pact

Desay SV, provider of intelligent cabin and driving solutions, and Parkopedia, a connected car services provider, have teamed up to provide Chinese automakers and their drivers a suite of parking services, including parking data and in-vehicle QR code parking payments.

With the partnership, Parkopedia will now provide Desay SV with its on-street and off-street parking data, covering all major cities and towns across the country, ensuring seamless parking experiences for Chinese drivers.

Recent Ground Truth Testing carried out by Frost & Sullivan revealed Parkopedia’s data to be the most accurate and complete static and dynamic data for both, on and off-street parking data in China.

Parkopedia’s 2021 Driver Survey, carried out in partnership with Zhongyan, found that 90% of drivers struggle to find parking, blaming a lack of accurate information, with 70% expecting automakers to provide them with accurate parking information as part of their connected vehicle services.

“The growing trend of driver-centric connected experiences means that parking information is an essential service by drivers of electric and connected vehicles,” said Hans Puvogel, COO of Parkopedia.

“As a key element of Desay SV’s infotainment services, we are able to save drivers time and effort by providing seamless parking experiences directly from within their vehicles with unparalleled coverage and accuracy.”

With the total number of registered passenger vehicles in China now exceeding 302 million, and just 80 million public parking spaces available, finding available parking in China is a growing concern for drivers.

More Chinese drives use QR code to pay parking fees

Meanwhile,  Parkopedia’s 2021 survey also found that drivers in China have now embraced cashless parking payments with less than 1% still paying for parking with cash, and the most popular payment method is via smartphone QR codes.

Parkopedia collects accurate parking payment QR codes for each location and embeds these into the vehicle’s infotainment system to be displayed to the driver in the correct location or zone.

Drivers can then scan the QR code on their vehicle screens with their smartphone before exiting a parking facility and without leaving the vehicle, avoiding time wasted waiting to pay at toll gates or spent searching for payment QR codes displayed around parking facilities.

Qingchun Qin, vice president for  Connected Vehicle Services at Desay SV, said: “Our basket of selected connected services based on driver demands provides automakers with a complete and easy solution for their infotainment ecosystem. Parkopedia makes it an unmissable part of our infotainment ecosystem which we are looking forward to partnering with long term.”
